Replacing Worn-out Switches
Kurzweil PC88

The Kurzweil PC88 is a fully-weighted, 88-key MIDI Controller from the mid 90s with four programmable zones for controlling different instruments.  It also has high-quality internal voices and the ability to combine them and their effects.

Some of the buttons on this PC88 weren't responding well.  This story shows how we removed the PC88's button circuit board and replaced the worn-out switches.

PC88 Battery

While the PC88 was open, we checked to see if the internal battery was good.

A low battery jeopardizes any User-created MIDI Setups.

PC88 Button Board

Then we swung out the Button  board and removed some of its plastic button-groups.

We were then able to remove and replace the underlying tactile switches that had worn out.
